construction of wire cloth and relative strengths and weaknesses.
Stainless Steel
Type 304
--Good abrasive resistance
--Good heat resistance
--Most widely used material; available in a variety of meshes
Type 316
--Less brittle than 304 and better resistance to heat and pitting
--High heat-resistance
--Readily available
Carbon Steel
--Inexpensive and tough; vulnerable to rust
--Moderate heat resistance
--Available only in 100 mesh and coarser
Monel®
--Good for uses in sulfuric, hydrofluoric, and hydrochloric
acid services
--Available principally in medium meshes
Copper
--Highly resistant to corrosion
--Limited meshes available
Brass
--Frequently used in water and brine services
--Subject to oxidation
--Available in limited meshes
